Dust Collection Case Study
A prominent cosmetics manufacturer called one day to solve a problem where light airborne dust was escaping into nearby offices.
Background
A prominent cosmetics manufacturer called one day to solve a problem where light airborne dust was escaping into nearby offices. The settling dust negatively impacted air quality, and presented a few other issues that the customer needed to address.
The Problem
While the customer scooped powders from a 55 gallon barrel into a smaller vessel, quite a bit of cosmetics dust was escaping and would come to rest on ledges and flat surfaces. Cosmetic dust is highly explosive in the right environment, and can also be very messy. As the customer became aware of NFPA 654 and NFPA 652 standards, they recognized that they needed a safe and reliable solution.
The Solution
A proposal for the Explosion-Protected SPC 2000 Portable Dust Collector for compliance with NFPA 652 standard for ST1 explosive dusts in an ordinary area (ORDLOC). A quote for the SPC Portable Dust Collector with Class I Div. 1&2 explosion proof motor and fully grounded and static-dissipating construction, and with Dual 6” x 10’ Arms, was presented to the customer. The customer’s unique application required custom filtration and XP components that would bring them in line with NFPA 652 standard for ST1 Dusts. After adopting the proposal, the customer reported that they no longer needed to wash down the walls and ledges, as the nuisance dusts had been 100% contained.
