The Problem

A leading manufacturer called us about a problem they were having with a variety of plastic molding and extrusion machines in their production area.  The odors were being carried by cooling fans into hallways and then into the HVAC system and into the offices. The VOC was incredibly powerful and venting outside was not an option.  The airborne vapors were flammable, so a  safe solution was crucial as this was close to an office area.

The Solution

VOC Collector with Explosion-Proof Motor and NEMA 7/9 Starter. Dual 6" ducting collars.

Source capture is almost always better than ambient capture. Because by the time the odor fills a large space it becomes a large problem. We looked at the machines being used for forming the plastics and saw that some had connection points for a source-capture fume extractor. Others didn't have any pickup points to connect to.  We recommended our Portable VOC Extractor with ducting collars for the molding machines with hose connections. We recommended the same extractor, but fitted with extraction arms where a direct connection was not possible.  The VOC Fume Collector has up to 75 lbs. of 4mm carbon pellets that are loaded into 25 lb trays. There are also particulate filters, and an optional M14 Rigid Cell for sticky fumes.

The plant manager reported that the 4mm carbon cells were doing a great job of eliminating up to 95% of the odors. They were very happy with the solution we provided and they have become a repeat customer.
